The Greek passport has maintained its strong position in the global rankings, securing the 7th spot on the Henley Passport Index. Greek passport holders enjoy visa-free access to 185 countries, solidifying its status as one of the most powerful passports in the world.
On the other hand, the Cyprus passport has dropped one spot from last year’s ranking and now stands at 12th place on the Henley Passport Index for Q4 2023. Despite the slight decline, Cypriot passport holders still have the privilege of traveling to 179 destinations without a prior visa.
Recent data reveals that citizens of Singapore hold the world’s most powerful passport. The Henley Passport Index, compiled by Henley and Partners, ranks passports based on the number of visa-free destinations they offer. It utilizes data from the International Air Transport Association to determine passport strength.
The United States has experienced a steady decline on the index over the past decade, dropping two more places to secure the eighth position. American passport holders now have visa-free access to 184 destinations. In 2014, the US and the UK jointly held the top position on the index, but both countries have seen a downward trajectory in recent years.
At the bottom of the index, Afghanistan remains in the weakest position with a visa-free access score of only 27. It is followed by Iraq at 29 and Syria at 30, indicating the limited travel freedom for holders of these passports.
